Cold Brew Coffee

If in case you are not familiar with the art of cold brew, or maybe you have never tried it yourself, here is a quick rundown for you. Cold brewing is a process of steeping coffee grounds in either room temperature or cold water. Allow a good amount of time for the process of steeping to ensure flavor slowly gets extracted from the beans. This will give you smooth, but highly concentrated coffee which is just perfect for making cold brew Mocha.

Here are some of the benefits of cold brew coffee

  • Less acidity – Cold brew coffee is less acidic in nature and becomes a natural choice for people with acid reflux or for those who prefer mellower coffee.
  • More flavors – Prolonged brewing time in cold brew coffee allows more of the flavor to be extracted from the beans. This means you get more concentrated coffee that is less likely to taste watered down when poured over coffee.
  • Cold brew coffee stays fresh longer – When the coffee is heated and then cooled, there’s a chemical changes that happen. The amazing coffee smell you get when coffee is heated degrades as it cools off. Since in the process of cold brew coffee the chemical structure never changes, it taste the same a week from now as it does today.

Making Cold Brew Coffee

  1. Buy freshly roasted coffee beans from your local market.
  2. Take half cup of coarsely ground coffee and put it into the Madesco Cold Brew Coffee Filter
  3. Add 1 ½ cups of filtered water.
  4. Stir the mixture nicely using plastic or wooden spoon. Avoid using metals since it may affect the taste of the coffee.
  5. Cover the container and let it steep for 24 hours at room temperature.
  6. After 24 hours, move the container to the fridge and let it steep for another 24-48 hours to get stronger tasting coffee.
  7. Once your coffee reaches desired strength, remove the Madesco filter holding the used grounds, from the coffee concentrate.
  8. You can keep the coffee concentrate refrigerated for up to a week. After which coffee breaks down and the flavor degrades.

Patience, that’s the beauty of cold brew. Though it takes longer to steep, you can actually make a huge batch and store it in the fridge and use it whenever you are ready to drink. We make it in advance to make sure we never run out.
